October is a big month for me – it’s Down Syndrome Awareness Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and it’s when I normally get to see all of you at Dinner with Bill & Friends.
I think many of you know my story: 42 years ago, I was born with Down Syndrome. The doctors told my mom that she should put me in an institution. I am so glad she didn’t listen to them! If she had, I wouldn’t be working at TIAA Bank, I wouldn’t be able to buy season tickets for the Jaguars and I definitely wouldn’t have gone to the Super Bowl!
The Arc Jacksonville has been there for me for most of my life. With the support of my job coach over the years, I have been able to advance in my job. The advocacy department helps me make sure that I’m accessing all the tools and resources available to me and helps me plan for my future. Retirement, I’m coming for you!
I’ve been lucky to have The Arc Jacksonville on my side and I’m honored to be a member of their Board of Directors to help others like me.
Now, I’m asking you to help me.
As you know, at the end of my speech at Dinner with Bill & Friends, I close by saying “Show Me the Money!” If you can, please consider making a donation to ensure that individuals with intellectual and developmental differences have a good life! This year, your donation will go even further because TIAA Bank is back with its “Moose Match!” TIAA Bank will be matching the first $15,000 donated!
